Feighan Zenczak Cottage
The original Steamboat Gothic style home built in 1878 remained in the Hukill family for 130 years. The Hukill children played with the children of Chautauqua Institution co-founder Bishop Heil Vincent in the sandbox in front of the home.
Pat and Steve purchased the home in 2017 after living just up the block at 17 Peck for 19 years. Having raised their three daughters in a neighborhood they loved, when the Hukill home came up for sale, they moved. They had always admired the beauty of the home, the lake view, the view of the Bishop’s Garden and the location. Dreams do come true!
The 2018 restoration included replacing the roof, and restoring all of the floors, windows, doors and hardware on the first and second floors of the house. The fireplace mantle was redesigned using reclaimed slate from Chautauqua School’s chalk boards. Pat and Steve’s favorite feature, the hidden bar and liquor cabinet, remain untouched.
Reconstruction continued In 2019, building the new kitchen, powder room and laundry room on the first floor and one heated bedroom and two bathrooms on the second floor. The kitchen floor has cement tile and a large island counter is made of hickory with an ebony stain.
There are 7 bedrooms in the house, 3 on the third floor, and 4, plus a sitting room, on the second floor.
The owners have extended their time in Chautauqua and can now share their home with their family and friends year-round.
