Betsy Burgeson is in her third year of serving the Chautauqua Institution as Supervisor of Gardens and Landscapes. Her background as an educator and coordinator of the Master Gardener Program at Cornell Cooperative Extension uniquely qualify her to know the world of growing plants. Her passion for all things natural comes through her words and actions. At this Lake Walk program, she’ll share the secrets of gardening for water quality, also known as bluethumb gardening. This tour will showcase the Peck Rain Garden and the gorgeous lakeshore buffers on Chautauqua Institution’s shoreline.
Betsy earned a Bachelor of Science in earth science and biology education and a master’s in science secondary education at Fredonia State University. She then taught biology for seven years at Panama Central in southern Chautauqua County. Betsy, a “third-generation gardener,” became the Supervisor of Gardens and Landscapes at Chautauqua Institution in 2015.
